How to choose a golf putter? So many different styles? (What is 1-ball 2-ball?)?

I’m looking to getting a putter and don’t know how much I should spend. I basically don’t intend to play on a golf course as my balls go all over the place and I’m not a fan of walking around.

I go to the golf driving range and there they have a putting green. I never owned a putter so now I got to get one and don’t know which kind to get? Basically I think I’ll be happy with the single rectangular piece of a putter but I see pictures of 1-ball 2-ball. First I don’t know what that is. Second is it golf-legal? Third is it better. Fourth is it more fun.

Plus am I being old fashioned to use a regular old-style putter and good old fashioned at that. The purpose of a sport is to challenge you not baby you and I don’t think I like the idea of training wheels on my putter. What do you guys think I should get? Thanks.

If you are really new to golf and never owned a putter before, your best bet is to go to Walmart or target and get a cheep putter, until you learn to put, get a longer one if you are tall, the 2ball or the mallet putters are better for begginers but if you are if tend to over shoot the hole frequently then you might want to try a blade putter. everyone will debate which one is better(blade or mallet) but it comes down to personal prefernce. you can go to a golf store and play around with all of them and just pick which one is most comfortable. the best Blade putter money can buy is a Scotty Cameron. A good Mallet putter for your money is an Odyssey 3ball(it is fairly cheap and has great control but it is HUGE) and yes it is legal.
