"But how do you putt?" asks Tiger. "Well," says Stevie, "I get my caddy to lean down in front of the hole and call to me with his head on the ground, and I just play the ball toward his voice."

Tiger asks, "What’s your handicap?" Stevie says, "Well, I’m a scratch golfer."

Tiger, incredulous, says to Stevie, "We’ve got to play a round sometime." Stevie replies, "Well, people don’t take me seriously, so I only play for money, and never play for less than $10,000 a hole."

Tiger thinks about it and says, "OK, I’m game for that, when would you like to play?"

Stevie says, "Pick a night."

Ok so I haven’t played a ton, it’s a new hobby. My swing is very ugly but i can drive straight. I am still working on a better iron game and if i didn’t rush so much I would have great putts. We play a course with a front 9, back 9 and third 12. I average 82 to 86 on 18 holes. I know I am over par of course, but I wondered if I kept playing and improving where I could go with my game? I play for fun, but I am in college and I am transferring to a University next year and hoped to maybe try out for the golf team. (Side note- I am a back to schooler – I am 31)

I will be getting some tips from a golf pro soon, but wondered if anyone has any good thoughts….

It depends on the school you will be attending, but you probably need to cut at least 10 shots off your score to make the team. Keep some stats on your rounds like number of fairways hit, number of greens in regulation, up and down saves, and number of putts. Then analyze to find the weakest part of your game and work on that to improve your score.
