Making Practice Pay Off

No matter how much athletic ability or natural talent you have, you still have to practice to become good. Practicing fine-tunes your skills, develops consistency, and builds confidence. It also improves your balance, rhythm, and timing. Look at VJ Singh. One of the world’s best golfers, he practices tirelessly. Many on the tour consider him its iron- man. If you’re serious about reducing your golf handicap, you’ll practice hard, too.

But practicing has its challenges. Time is one. Productivity is another. Boredom is a third. Then there’s the challenge of taking what you practice to the course. It’s not uncommon to hear students taking golf lessons complain of being unable to transfer what they do in practice to the course. That’s a major challenge. You must overcome its challenges to make practice pay off. Below are some golf tips on how to do that.

Planning Is A Key

Most of us are extremely busy. Between our jobs and our families, there’s not much time to practice. To make practice pay off big time, we must get the most from each session. The best way of doing that is to plan your practices. Planning focuses your efforts and directs your activities. Both are key when time is a factor. Your plan doesn’t have to be elaborate. In fact, it can be quite simple. Just make sure you have one.

Also, make sure plan should include objectives for each session. Quantifiable objectives work best. Try to make them course related as well, like cutting down putts per round. And make sure your plan addresses your weaknesses. We all like hitting bombs in practice. But if you hit your irons poorly, you must spend time practicing them, too. Finally, balance your sessions as much as you can, but plan to spend more time on your short game than anything else. Improving it drives down golf handicaps quickly.

Make Practice Fun

Overcoming boredom is among the biggest challenges in practice. It’s a drag doing the same drills over and over again, no matter how effective they are. Vary your practice sessions as much as you possible. Have three or four drills to improve putting and switch off between them every couple of sessions. Also, try working on different aspects of your game at different sessions. Work one session on your short game. Work the next session on your iron play. Change it up. Keep your mind engaged.

Another way to alleviate boredom is by playing games with yourself or with someone else. Use your imagination to invent games. Challenge your foursome your foursome for a drink or just for bragging rights to a putting contest. Better yet, challenge yourself to beat yourself. Tell yourself you’re going to hit five shots to the red flag. Then see how many you hit. Keep track of how many times you do it. Do this over a few months, and then see what your average is.

Work on Realistic Situations

One of the biggest challenges in practicing is translating what you work on to the course. Many golfers complain that they do well in practice, but when it comes to real-life, they fail to make the transition. One way to do that is to practice on grass whenever you can. It’s nice to hit off the mats at the practice range, but it’s not the same as hitting on grass. Hitting on grass also lets you check your divots, which can tell you a lot about how you’re hitting the ball. And practice the way you play. Practice a wedge shot, and then follow it up with a putt, just like you’d do on the course.

Also, work in some realistic game situations in practice sessions. Try chipping over a wading pool in your bag to practice hitting over an obstacle on the course. Vijay Singh hits half his practice shots under game conditions. First, he hits a couple of balls with each club. Then he places himself in a key situation and practices executing the right shot. The more of “realistic” drills you program into your practice sessions, the easier it is to make the transition to the course.

You have to practice to improve your game and develop consistency. But practicing has its challenges—like boredom and time limitations. Learn to dispel these challenges and you’ll make your practice sessions really pay off. That in turn will help you cut your golf handicap down to single digits.

Golf Game and Free Tips to Improve Your Game

Every good golfer has the ability to control his or her shots. Every good golfer learns that it is one thing to swing a golf club, but it is another thing to know what position the club is in while it is being swung.

Well, once you learn the difference between letting your club fall open on the backswing and or keeping it closed, square, or in position as you make your swing, you will begin to play golf. Your shots start to go straighter, and you will begin to play golf as one ought to play it if you use each club for the shot or purpose for which it was designed.

1. A golf club will only do what the player makes it do.
2. Each club is designed for a specific purpose, and only when it is applied to the ball in its true, natural state will it produce the effect for which it was designed.
3. Basically, there are only three clubs in golf:
4. The driver shaped so that it drives the ball on a low trajectory and is therefore used for distance shots.
5. The iron, formerly called a lofter, does exactly what the name implies it lofts, or lifts the ball. This club is used to place the ball into position in certain spots on the fairway or on the green
6. The putter, which would be better named a roller, is so designed that it rolls the ball; therefore, it is the club used to accomplish the very purpose of the game roll the ball into the cup.

However, golfers are not limited or restricted to these three clubs. Golfers get themselves a set of two or three, more generally four, but sometimes even five, drivers. They carry a set of three or six, most generally a set of eight, irons. They usually add to this outfit a heavy weighted club to get the ball out of deep grass or sand traps. In addition, the above clubs, along with a putter, generally constitute the set of 14 clubs that a golfer is permitted to use in tournament play.

Now, having such an outfit is a perfect waste of material unless each and every club is swung in the same way so that the various differences in the shapes of the clubs can each perform their objectives. In other words, golf is an easy game to play, because the player has a specific club or tool for each shot or effect that is desired. All he has to do is to learn the one basic swing and apply it to each club.

By comparison, the game of tennis is difficult. In tennis, the player has only one club or one racquet, the ball is never in the same position it is either high or low, in front of him or behind him and to make his shots successfully the tennis player must learn and be able to play several different strokes. However, not so the golfer. If he correctly learns the one stroke, he can simply let the club do the work.

Golf Equipment – What you Need to Get Started

As with any other sport to play golf you need to ensure that you have the correct equipment so that you can play golf correctly. Hopefully this article will provide you with a basic understanding as to what is required.

Basically, there are two main components to play golf – there are the golf ball and the golf clubs. The golf ball is not just a ball it is a scientifically designed piece of equipment. The dimples on a golf ball are designed so that there is less resistance in the air – if you look closely at different brands of golf ball the dimples are slightly different and it you count the dimples on a golf ball some balls have more than others. The inside of the golf ball is also different – this inside of the ball is normally determined by how much spin you want to be able to impart onto the ball, both in the air and upon contact with the ground.

There are numerous different varieties of golf clubs available at present, these are the driver, fairway wood, utility club sometimes also known as a hybrid club, irons, wedge and putter. Each of these different varieties has their relevant use on the golf course. For example the driver is the club which you use from the tee when you want to make a shot which goes a long way, the wedge is used for the short approach aspect of the game when you are coming into the green and of course the putter is used when you are on the green. Which club you decide to use for each shot is individual choice and can depend upon numerous things, game style, course style, ball lie, distance etc etc.

To make it easier to transport your golf clubs, both on and off the course you require something to carry them in. This is where the golf bag is used. The golf bag is used more than just for carrying your clubs however, it is also a piece of equipment which you use to protect your golf clubs. There are numerous varieties of golf bag available and the choice bag is down to both personal preference and requirements. For example if you will not be using a golf cart then a stand bag will probably be your requirement, however if you will be using a golf cart then it may be more beneficial to use a cart bag. The golf bag will protect your golf clubs from banging into each other and also protect the shafts against wear. The golf bag is of course able to carry other things other than your clubs, there are numerous pockets on the bag where you can put your golf balls, tees, drinks, waterproofs etc.

Another good item which is used to protect your golf clubs (normally your woods) is the golf head cover, this is a device which slides over the club and protect the club from damage.

If you are going to be playing on a golf course then you will need good grip. To facilitate this you will require a good quality set of golf shoes, Golf shoes are different to normal shoes as they have ‘spikes’ on them – these are so that you feet grip into the ground when you are making your swing. Slipping when you make your swing can have disastrous results – in some cases it can cause you to miss the ball altogether. These spikes come in all sorts of varieties, however soft spikes are the normal preference as they do not cause and damage to the greens when you walk on them. Golf shoes do more than just assist you in retaining your grip – the also give you the ability to keep your feet dry. When choosing a pair of golf shoes choose a pair which are sturdy, however they need to be comfortable as you could be walking a long way in them. If you do not feel comfortable in your shoes you will definitely not be able to concentrate on your game and could even do some damage to your feet.

You will require some tees. Tees are either made from wood or plastic and are used when you are teeing off on a hole. You balance the ball on the top of the tee and strike the ball from it rather than from the ground.

Most golfers tend to wear a golf glove. The golf glove is normally worn on the other hand to your ‘master hand’; therefore if you are right handed you would wear the glove on your left hand. The glove is there to prevent the club from slipping in your hand and assist you in getting a better grip on the club. There are various types of glove available, you need to ensure that the glove is a good fit and is like a secondary piece of skin.

When you play golf there is a lot of walking involved which is why a lot of golfers invest in a golf cart. There are 2 different varieties of golf cart available, there is the manual cart which you either push or pull and there is the electric cart which is driven by an electric motor. In your golf bag will be a lot of equipment and the bag can be heavy, it will also feel a lot heavier as the round goes on. When you use a golf cart you place the bag onto the cart and pull or push the cart along. This makes the round a lot less tiring and therefore a lot more enjoyable.

You can purchase golf equipment from various shops both online and offline. Golf equipment can be expensive to purchase initially, therefore if you are on a budget you can look into purchasing second hand equipment. The Internet is a fantastic resource for locating good equipment. All golf equipment is not alike, however which is why it is recommended that you investigate each product prior to purchase.

4 Essential Things to Bring When Winning Holes in Grupo Mayan Golf Spots

Who can definitely resist playing in a Grupo Mayan golf club? It’s regarded as one of the best in the world. Let’s also not forget that in Mexico, you’re practically blessed with a very fine weather all year round. The grasses are green, and when you’re in a higher-altitude golf course, you can basically see the oceans and seas that surround the country.

However, you are not there to simply stroll in the Grupo Mayan playing field. You are there to swing your clubs and get those balls into their respective holes. Thus, you need some equipment. Surely, these courses will have their own rental facilities. If you have cash, you can go on a Mexican holiday without bringing any golfing gear—you’re just going to rent.

Yet if you want to take the game a little more seriously, you should use your own. After all, you really need to be ultra comfortable with the golf clubs, know how to achieve that perfect swing without losing your grip. So before you try to consider having that Grupo Mayan vacation, make sure that you can include in your Things to Bring list the following items:

Golf Clubs. There are a wide variety of golf clubs that you can use, and they can be made out of different materials, including wood and metal. Most of the golf clubs, too, are available per set. There could be 14 of them in full set or 7 in half set. But if you’re just starting out, you may want to tag along in the Grupo Mayan golf course few individual pieces. You can’t learn how to use all of them, anyway. You better start with 5 irons and a putter. You may want to ask for some advice as to what golf club will be ideal for your height or weight.

Gloves. You can not wear golf gloves when you’re playing in the Grupo Mayan golf course, but there’s always the huge possibility that you will lose your grip. Your hands will perspire and become sweaty. Your hands may also get hurt from constant holding and rubbing of the golf clubs. Thus, you need to have golf gloves. Usually, you only need one glove, and you are going to wear it in your weaker hand. But you can still wear both, if you want to ensure that you can have a very strong grip. Be sure that you can wear these gloves even when practicing your swing, so you can be comfortable with them.

Shoes. There are shoes that are specific for golf, and that’s what you should use—not a running shoes or sneakers. Golf shoes normally have spikes, which make sure that you don’t accidentally move when you’re making the hit. They are also water proof, so you can basically walk around the green even when there is water or it starts to rain.

Golf Bags. Of course, you can’t move around comfortably with golf bags. Pick those that can contain everything you need and you can wear without any problem over your shoulder.

Golf-Easiest/Easier part of the game?

When I began playing in high school, noticed many friends had much better ball striking ability compared to me but had same experience playing as me. They werent any good (105-110?),but struck ball decent with driver and irons. I couldnt hit it 10 feet with irons. This lead me to more many hours at putting and chipping/pitching green where I knew I’d at least hit ball.

I know everybody is different, but for average bogey golfer ,how many out of 10, 150 yard 5 iron shots hit the green? Is this the bread and butter for a average player? or at least a shot where they rarely chunk or top?

I have been in mid 80′s for a year with so/so ball striking,so curious where I measure up/or is my short game just that good(3 putt maybe 1 hole for dbogey per round, most chips/flops go to at least 3 feet)

you can get your answer with the experience guy who is playing golf from high school.if u r a average bogey golfer then practice of shots make u good player.
