It’s important to remember, your golf swing is what drives your score; not your clubs or ball. Most golfers don’t know that eighty percent of the world’s golfers have a handicap of 18 or more. When you’re playing golf badly it isn’t a lot of fun.

Overall, you generally want to play golf with confidence. If you’ve hit with your golf driver perfectly once, you can do it every time; the subconscious mind knows the correct number and sequence of muscle contractions and nerve impulses needed, called muscle memory. Visualize where you would like the ball to land, as you swing.

As the body matures, the ability to rotate the upper torso is affected by age, and the hand action can also slow down requiring a slightly stronger grip. Make sure to use the proper technique. At the end of a swing, the weight has shifted almost entirely to the left foot, the body is fully turned to the left and the hands are above the left shoulder with the club hanging down over the players’ back.

Standing over the ball for too long a time and wondering whether you’re going to swing the club correctly can easily result in a skewed shot, or completely missing the ball. Use the muscles in your legs and trunk when you swing. Putting can become a nightmare and a condition called the ‘yips’ has affected not only amateurs but professionals as well; get expert advice and consider a golf swing aid.

Before you swing, make sure you’re relaxed; contract all your muscles tightly for a moment and then relax them. After the ball is hit, the follow-through stage consists of a continued rotation to the left. Ask your golf pro to evaluate your posture while swinging. Swing slowly and steadily using a nice rhythm. Use the basic ‘hitchhiker’ position when you’re working on your backswing.

It’s no secret; most of the professional players actively participate in workouts. You can get rid of shoulder problems with some simple techniques. Don’t underestimate the value of fitness when it comes to your golf swing and your overall golf game.

Keep in mind that with some golf swing aids, you may still need advice or help from an expert. Overall, investing in aids will greatly improve your golf swing and your golf game. There are aids that will help you with swing alignment.

Look for golf swing aids at your local golf course. You can find aids that will help you with your wrist and arm position. There are golf swing aids that act as driving range simulators.

Whether you’re a seasoned golfer or just starting out, pick just one aid and go to work on your swing. Golf swing aids come in all shapes and sizes including apparel type accessories to correct alignment or a golf club add-on accessory to monitor your swing. Before buying any aid, check with an expert to get an idea of what problem you need to work on first; backlift, momentum of downward thrust or stance for example.

If you’re looking for an aid to improve your stance they’re not hard to find. In any case, stick to just one aid at a time; don’t load up on them.

When you play a round of golf, concentrate on improving your swing, putting or something specific that day; have a plan in mind. If you’ve hit with your golf driver perfectly once, you can do it every time. Now is the time to fix that golf swing forever.

We all want to have more power in our golf swing. Want to see that ball go sailing off the tee straight down the fairway a couple of hundred yards. Now of course we’ve all also seen someone consistently do that at a course on Sunday afternoon, so effortlessly, just like the club was slicing through butter. What do these people with the perfect golf swing and a perfect drive every time have that we don’t have. Is it speed, strength, or a better driver? Chances are none of the above, what they have mastered is their golf swing mechanics.

Of course a better driver made of the latest and greatest material will help add a few yards to your drive, also having strength in the right muscles will help out. How ever all of these things aren’t worth a dime if you’re not using them correctly. And to use them correctly you need to have the right swing mechanics down. Until you understand exactly what happens when you swing a golf club, how the weight is transferred and how mechanics come into play rather then brute force and strength you’ll continue to either duff the ball or be plagued by that evil hook or slice.

So is this to say that you should just purchase an inexpensive club, and any out of shape bum can learn to drive a winning ball? No not at all, your equipment and physical fitness level are very important, how ever you need to learn to use it right. A bad swing will only produce one thing, bad results. Whether it’s a good club or a bad club, or your strong or weak.

If you’re over the top with your golf swing, or to far on the inside it will come out in the direction of the ball. Being able to correct this error through your swing mechanics is when you’ve really learned to master the controllable par of this crazy game.

Working consistently to tweak your swing through mechanics is how you’ll slowly but surely shave those strokes off of your handicap. The key is know the right way to do it in the first place so you have a base to work from. It is a lot more difficult for us to unlearn bad habits in our swing sequence then it is to take the time to learn the correct movements and technique the first time around. Remember bad habits are difficult to break, and this is no different in golf then it is in any other area of life.

Take advantage of Golf Instruction

One big let down with amateur golfers is that they get discouraged when they don’t see improvement after practicing and practicing at the driving range. All they’re learning to do is slice that ball further and further rather then discovering how to correct it and drive it straighter and straighter. This can all be corrected by introducing the correct instruction to your practicing regime. Whether it’s a quality instructional video or book, or you register for lessons from the local pro you need a solid foundation to understand why a golf ball will tend to slice or hook. Or where the correction can be made in your swing to stop topping the ball. Without proper instruction you can’t fully understand correct golf swing mechanics, and will continue to be frustrated.

I was on the course with my friends today and i had about a 6 foot putt that was dead straight. It was to win our friendly match and all my friends asked me how i missed it? I even admit it was dead straight. But how do i hit a dead straight putt. Im a 6 handicap and have a great long game and game around the green. Putting has always kept me back from being really good. btw im 17 so i still have alot to improve. But the one thing no one has taught me is how to hit a straight putt. How do i line up? What do i look at? Any thing will help. Thanks

You can still putt straight at the hole, and still miss. There are factors that is present within the last 3 feet of the hole that will play a role in the outcome.

The reverse donut…in which, the surrounding 6" around the hole itself will be elevated ever-so-slightly due to the constant pressure of those before you and yourself that has stepped up to the hole and taken the ball out of the hole…if the pin placement been the same throughout the week, expect such a condition to be present.

The things that work for me, is lining up the ball arrow with my target line…trust in my judgment and just provide a untempered putting swing…keeping the larger muscles in the hand & arms out of the equation.

If it is a straight putt as you say, even at 8" away, my stroke with the putter will follow through towards the path of the hole, no arc.
