How do I go about designing golf courses?
I believe my true calling in life is to design golf courses, or at least work with those who do the design of golf courses.
I have a background in Civil Engineering so I understand the importance of drainage and storm water detention.
Just wondering if anyone out there can give me a little direction.
Thanks in advance.
The design of a golf course requires collaboration between many disciplines. This involves mostly civil engineers and landscape architects.
As you stated, civil engineers are mainly responsible for designing the drainage of the overall site. They will also be responsible for land reclamation and geotechnical assessments.
On the other hand, the landscape architects are responsible for designing the contours of the site in order to tailor for the varying difficulties of the holes of the course, as well as the placement of lakes and trees.
Having said all that, I doubt that golf design companies directly employ civil engineers, rather they employ the landscape architects. They in turn offer contracts with consultancies for the design of the infrastructure, such as the drainage works and road access.
I might be wrong. I highly suggest you contact golf design companies: http://www.google.co.uk/#hl=en&source=hp&q=golf+course+designers&btnG=Google+Search&meta=&aq=f&oq=golf+course+designers&fp=d201e90ebf28d963
I hope this helps and I wish you the very best with your future career.

what the best golf putter ever?
i have my eye on a resso putter.
this is according to the web one of the greatest putters you can buy.
i have heard great things about this.
i am just wondering if any one has bought or has one an could give me the information on why this putter is so good.
can you really knock down putts like crazy.
they say this putter can take 10 strokes off your game.

i know its how u use the putter not the putter you use but i just want to know what the putter is like okay thanks in advance
The best putter( club ) ever is the one you use which results in the most one putts, no three putts. Putting is all about feel and confidence. Whoever states that a putter can take10 strokes off your score immediately is catering to the most gullible. He most likely will sell a lot of putters. If you believe everything you read on the web, there is a great bridge in Brooklyn for sale.

What is a great and CHEAP 9 hole golf course in or around Pittsburgh to play?
My fiancee and I are fairly new to the game and want to play more golf, but greens fees are killing us. Paying 25 a piece everytime to go out when we stink just doesn’t make the game fun. Can anyone recommend a cheaper course that is in fair condition? Thanks in advance!!!!!
try krendale in butler county

If you can’t take golf, you can’t take life.” but i also need the name of the ppl that say the different quotes. thanks in advance!

What is the proper way to mow a golf course green?
I’m starting a job soon at a golf course and they want to take me out and make sure I can properly mow a green and "see if I have it". Is there any tips on how I can do a better job, or anything of that sort? Thanks in advance
Depending on the mower they give you, hand mower self propelled or green mowing machine the mowing is usually done perpendicular to the tee markers. Then mow strip after strip leaving less than a mower width uncut both at the start and the finish, When the whole green has been mowed, mow the uncut edge going right around the whole green. Hope this helps.

What’s my potential? Am I a natural at golf? Is this something I should pursue? Do I have a chance at the pga?
I’m 23 years old (yes I know it’s old to start) and I just started the game last year. I might have gone to the driving range here and there or mini putt but never actually played the game of golf until last year and I loved it. I went maybe 8 times last year and already 15 times this year. I’ve never had instruction ever but I’m planning on it. Just this year I was shooting 105-110 and have improved to 95-100 and now I’m already shooting 88-92 in my last 2 or 3 times I’ve gone. The main reason with my first drop was my confidence in my putter. The rest that I’ve been dropping is my consistent irons and consistent fairway hits off the tee.
I hit the driver 240-250 nice and easy and hit the fairway 80 percent of the time.
My irons have been improving dramatically each time I go!
My short game is really solid where if I’m using my sand wedge which is usually 60-70 yards and in then I’m very confident I’ll land on the green.
Rarely do I three putt.
I feel like I’m a natural at this and with proper instruction and practice, I can make something out of it. What do you guys think? Any tips? What should I do first?
Thanks in advance!!!!!!
Instruction and the short game are the way to get your scores lower. You might want to search for more length, however… the shortest hitters on Tour are in the 270-280 range (but they usually are in the top 10 in driving accuracy). All is not lost. If you haven’t, get properly fit for you clubs- having sticks that fit will also bring improvement.
Play tournaments in your area. You need to learn to compete, as well as improve. You learn from winning, but you’ll learn even more in defeat. Learn how to handle both well.
There will be a lot of doubters, but don’t worry. Boo Weekley and Padraig Harrington were late entries to the PGA Tour (though they had been golfing for some time before).
Don’t be surprised if this doesn’t pan out. I don’t want to be a killjoy, but make sure you have a Plan B. That said, go for it!

What’s the best golf course review site?
Am looking to find golf courses when I’m traveling on vacation this summer, and interested in finding a website that rates courses by the golfers who play them. Thanks in advance for your help.
Golf digest and golf magazine both rank courses by state and nationally. I am not sure if they are available on their websites though.
